FUE Hair Transplant in Singapore

WHAT IT IS, HOW IT WORKS, COST, AND 3-STEP PROCESS

Natural-Looking Hair Restoration

Experiencing significant hair loss can feel frustrating. Around 30–50% of men develop male pattern baldness by age 50, and approximately 25% of women experience female pattern hair loss by the same age

For bitemporal recessions, regrowth of miniaturised hairs are unlikely even with the use of medications. For late stage patterned hair loss, surgical options would be necessary to regrow the past crowning glory.

At AURA, we offer a FUE hair transplant in Singapore, designed to help you regain a fuller head of hair. Performed by a trained hair surgeon, we deliver natural realistic results.

CLINIC-BASED PROCEDURE FOR SCALP CARE

What is an FUE hair
transplant?

Short for Follicular Unit Extraction, an FUE hair transplant involves harvesting individual hair follicles from a donor area. Hundreds or thousands of tiny punch incisions are made to extract the follicles, which then are carefully implanted into the recipient area where the thinning or balding takes place.

An FUE hair transplant is considered a surgical procedure. However, it’s minimally invasive and performed under local anesthesia and mild sedation to minimise discomfort.

Who Is a Suitable Candidate for
FUE Hair Transplant?

Each patient should go through a thorough assessment to determine suitability for FUE hair transplant. This includes evaluating both the donor and recipient areas, as certain conditions, such as poor donor area or extensive recipient area, may make transplantation unsuitable.

Once suitability is confirmed, the treatment can be safely performed for the following profiles:

Men with Pattern Hair Loss

The procedure restores lost density by redistributing healthy follicles to balding or thinning areas, particularly around the temples and further back where male pattern hair loss typically progresses.

Individuals with Traction Hair Loss

Hair loss caused by persistent tight pulling can lead to scarring and permanent balding if not treated early. An FUE hair transplant can restore density and coverage in areas where hair no longer grows naturally.

Individuals with High Anterior Hairline

For individuals dissatisfied with their natural hairline, FUE can transplant healthy follicles from the donor area to create a fuller, more balanced appearance.

Men Looking For a Beard Transplant

Patchy or uneven beards can leave many men feeling dissatisfied with their appearance. An FUE hair transplant can help improve coverage and create a fuller-looking beard.

Individuals Looking for an Eyebrow Transplant

An FUE hair transplant can be performed on the eyebrows as well. This helps individuals with sparse or uneven eyebrows achieve their desired eyebrow definition.

Benefits of FUE Hair Transplant

Being a newer hair transplant method, the FUE method offers a range of benefits such as:

Minimally Invasive Procedure

Using tiny punches to extract healthy follicles, the procedure creates micro scars that aren’t visible when covered with remaining native hairs, unlike older procedures such as FUT, where a long linear scar is visible.

No Visible Linear Scar

As healthy follicles are harvested one by one using micro punches, no strip of donor tissue is removed to create a linear scar.

Faster Healing and Recovery

Reduced trauma to the scalp contributes to a relatively quick recovery, with scabs from the donor area typically shedding after about a week.

Natural-Looking Hair Growth

Results are natural when done by a trained doctor, mimicking your natural hair growth pattern as the procedure involves harvesting and implanting your own follicles individually.

Long-Term, Lasting Results

FUE technique has been proven to achieve reliable graft survival rates, which contribute to long-term and lasting results as transplanted follicles continue their growth cycle for years.

How FUE Hair Transplant Procedure Works

At AURA, we follow a step-by-step approach to safely perform an FUE hair transplant, with details listed below:

1

Medical Assessment and Hairline Design

Our doctor will begin by reviewing your medical history and conducting a pre-operative blood test to identify any underlying conditions that may affect your suitability.

Your hairline design will be planned, taking into account donor area availability, facial structure, and existing hair characteristics.

2

Donor Area Preparation

Before extracting follicles from the donor area, our doctor will perform a careful preparation process, including:

  • Trimming or shaving the hair on the donor area to allow for visibility of individual follicles.
  • Marking the donor area to guide precise harvesting.
  • Cleansing and disinfecting the area to reduce the risk of infection.
  • Administering local anaesthesia to numb the area throughout the procedure.
3

Individual Follicle Extraction

Healthy follicles are extracted individually using a specialised punch tool, typically less than 1.0 mm in diameter, making incisions with minimal tissue disruption.

4

Graft Preparation

Extracted grafts are examined under high-powered magnification to ensure they’re in optimal condition, and any excess tissue is trimmed for a proper fit within the recipient sites.

5

Precise Implantation

Tiny incisions are made in the thinning or balding area following the planned hairline design, and extracted grafts are implanted one by one at precise angles and depths to replicate natural hair growth patterns.

Post-Procedure Care and Monitoring

icon

After 1 – 4 days

Due to the prolonged effects of local anaesthesia, the donor and recipient areas may remain numb with minimal discomfort. We’ll guide you on how to properly wash your hair from post-operative day one, including regularly spraying the grafts with serum and avoiding unnecessary environmental exposure. Sleeping with your head elevated at a 45-degree angle and taking medications as prescribed will help reduce swelling and support healing.

icon

After 4 – 7 days

The grafted area continues to dry and small scabs may form. At this point itch may be noted. Refrain from scratching or picking at them. Movement and outdoor activities should still be limited.

icon

After 7 – 14 days

Healing becomes more noticeable, with scabs falling off naturally and inflammation gradually subsiding. Grafts are generally stable and the green light will be given after consultation with the doctor to return back to normal lifestyle, including wearing of caps and light exercises.

icon

After 14 days

Recovery continues steadily. Most normal activities, such as work or daily errands, can be resumed, although swimming and sunlight exposure should still be avoided with swimming in both sea and swimming pool water only after 2 months.

Hair follicles depend on the surrounding skin, blood supply and cellular activity. When the scalp condition declines, hair quality may change as well.

Areas That Can Be
Treated with FUE

Thinning or balding can affect different areas of the body where hair naturally grows. FUE offers advanced hair restoration for the following areas:

Scalp
Beard
Eyebrows
Scars

Recovery & Aftercare

Healing takes time, and our doctor will guide you on what to expect throughout the recovery process. Medications may be prescribed to minimise discomfort and support healing.

Make sure to follow the recommended aftercare instructions to promote proper recovery and optimal graft survival.

Results: What to Expect

Results from a hair transplant takes time. It’s normal for the implanted hairs to shed during the first few months after the procedure, typically from the first month.

This is a natural part of the hair growth cycle and doesn’t mean your transplant has failed. New growth usually begins around the fourth month and continues to improve gradually, with final results visible around the one-year mark.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sensations can vary depending on your pain tolerance. You may experience mild to moderate discomfort once the local anaesthesia wears off, which we can help alleviate by providing you with medication.

Yes. Typical downtime is about one week.

This depends on the size of the procedure. Larger surgeries involving more than 2,000 grafts can take up to 10 hours. Patients usually arrive around 8–9am and go home around 7–8pm.

Yes, the transplanted hair will fall out during the first few months post-procedure. This doesn’t mean the procedure has failed, as new growth usually begins around the fourth month, up to 1 year mark, where you’ll see the final results.

Yes, women can undergo an FUE hair transplant. The procedure helps restore thinning scalp from female pattern hair loss or improve the hairline for a more youthful, feminine appearance.

We recommend 1 week off from work since it is a surgical procedure. Normally a medical certificate will be issued. While exercise should be reintroduced gradually after 1 week with intensive exercising only after 1 month from surgery.

Dr Heng will review you on post-op day 1, followed by reviews at 1 week, 1 month, 4 months, 8 months, and 1 year.

Hair transplant results occur in phases. Initially, transplanted hair grows for about 1 month (the “honeymoon phase”). Around the 1-month mark, the transplanted hairs will shed — this is normal and expected. This is followed by the “ugly duckling phase,” where the hairs remain dormant. New growth typically starts around 4 months, with about 30–40% density visible. Final results are seen at 1 year. Growth speed varies between individuals, which is why regular follow-ups are important.

No. Dr Heng does not charge review fees for hair transplant follow-ups.

Hair transplants are charged from $5 per graft onwards. Eyebrow and facial hair transplants are priced separately. A surgical fee of $2,000 applies, which includes operating theatre fees, disposables, and all post-operative reviews. We recommend scheduling a consultation with Dr Heng for an accurate assessment and personalised quote.

You will be given a detailed list of pre- and post-operative DOs and DON’Ts. Commonly, patients are advised to avoid wearing hats or hair coverings for 1 week until the first review. You will also be taught how to properly care for and wash your hair after the procedure.

This depends on the medication. Well-controlled conditions such as cholesterol or blood pressure are usually not an issue. However, patients with blood clotting disorders or on blood thinners are generally not suitable for hair transplant surgery. A consultation with Dr Heng is required for proper assessment.

Yes. There will be tiny scars of less than 1mm in the donor area. These are scattered, not visible to the naked eye, and well hidden by existing hair.

No. Hair follicles taken from the donor area do not regrow.

Yes, non-shaven or long hair FUE is available. It is priced higher at $7.50 per graft due to the increased technical difficulty. Not all patients are suitable, so a consultation with Dr Heng is required.
